The way you broke this down made it so relatable and easy to understand. When I first returned to church, I found myself repeatedly asking for forgiveness for the same things from my past because I was still carrying the shame. One day, my pastor explained something similar, and it really changed my perspective. I realized I needed to accept God’s forgiveness and stop punishing myself for what He had already forgiven. Thank you for sharing this it’s such a meaningful reminder.
Aneccia, I cannot tell you how glad I am that this post hit home for you!
Another story I didn't share b/c of l space: I heard a pastor share that a lady once confessed sin to her that was almost unspeakable. He asked, "Have you asked God to forgive you?" When she said yes, he replied, "Quit doubting it and start believing it!"
I realized that beating ourselves up is really showing a lack of faith in the goodness of God. So now, when these thoughts assault me, I either say, "I believe in the forgiveness of sins" or, when it comes to damage I have caused, "I believe in Your power to redeem!"
The shield of faith really does extinguish the flaming missiles of the enemy!
Knowing that He can redeem even when He doesn’t restore has been especially freeing for me.
That distinction has changed the way I look at some things I simply cannot undo. Did anything you read here help to free you up?
